"Memories"

Mullberry Wood on Flagstone

26"x13"x12"

Some memories in life can keep us from moving forward.  It is the memories that signify the added weight of the top mass. You can notice that “Memories” is beginning to crack.  Even though the sculpture is moving forward, the weight of memories keeps it teetering on the edge of balance with the possibility of falling.  At times we are paralyzed by memories.  I found a sample essay, possibly better Essay paper, read more...

"Jabble"

Brazilian Pepper Wood

24"x20"x14"

"Jabble is an English sea-faring word meaning choppy seas.  Here in the States the word jabble indicates an emotional and mental agitation. The sculpture has numerous triangular forms, a non-objective creature coming out one side, and a little eye-like image in the lower portion.  The sculpture expresses tension as it tries to move forward and yet it is balanced.

"We found the wood for this sculpture when my husband, Baxter Rains  and I were canoeing down the Banana River.  We saw men cutting down the tree; it was infested with bugs.  They were delighted to have us cart it off."
